Ada beberapa hadits yang menyatakan bahwa mayit disiksa atau diadzab lantaran tangisan keluarga yang ditinggalkannya.Secara zhahir atau tekstual kita akan pribadi menangkap bahwa mayit tersebut disiksa di alam kuburnya lantaran tangisan kita.
Hadis dari Aisyah radhiyallahu ‘anha , bahwa Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam pernah melewati perempuan yahudi yang meninggal dan ditangisi keluarganya. Kemudian Nabi shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam bersabda ,
إِنَّهُمْ لَيَبْكُونَ عَلَيْهَا وَإِنَّهَا لَتُعَذَّبُ فِي قَبْرِهَا
Mereka menangisi perempuan itu , sementara si perempuan itu disiksa di kuburnya. (HR. Bukhari 1289)
Kemudian , disebutkan dalam hadis Ibnu Umar
Mayat disiksa lantaran tangis keluarganya maksudnya bukanlah lantaran tangisannya itu sendiri melainkan lantaran verbal yang mengumpat , meratap , dan mengucapkan perkataan kekufuran yang mengingkari takdir atau mempertanyakan keadilan Tuhan akhir ditinggal oleh orang yang dicintainya
Bahwa Rasulullah shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam dan beberapa sahabatnya pernah menjenguk Sa’d bin Ubadah yang saat itu sedang dirundung kesedihan seluruh keluarganya. Melihat suasana duka , Nabi shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam bertanya , “Apa dia sudah meninggal?”
’Belum , ya Rasulullah.’ jawab keluarganya.
Kemudian Nabi shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam menangis. Para sahabatpun ikut menangis. Kemudian Nabi shallallahu ‘alaihi wa sallam bersabda ,
أَلاَ تَسْمَعُونَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يُعَذِّبُ بِدَمْعِ العَيْنِ، وَلاَ بِحُزْنِ القَلْبِ، وَلَكِنْ يُعَذِّبُ بِهَذَا – وَأَشَارَ إِلَى لِسَانِهِ – أَوْ يَرْحَمُ، وَإِنَّ المَيِّتَ يُعَذَّبُ بِبُكَاءِ أَهْلِهِ عَلَيْهِ
Tidakkah kalian mendengar , bahwa Tuhan tidak menyiksa disebabkan tetesan air mata atau kesedihan hati. Namun Tuhan menyiksa atau merahmati disebabkan ini , – dia berisyarat ke lisannya -. Sesungguhnya mayit disiksa disebabkan tangisan keluarganya kepadanya. (HR. Bukhari 1304 & Muslim 924).
Pada hadist di atas terang bahwa menangis dan hati yang duka itu ialah sesuatu yang manusiawi , maka Rasulullah s.a.w. pun menangisi orang yang meninggal.
Namun dihentikan rasa duka itu hingga menyebabkan keluar perkataan yang kufur menyerupai mencerca Tuhan , menyangkal adanya takdir janjkematian , menuduh Tuhan tidak adil dan lain sebagainya.
Kalaupun keluarganya meratap dan menjerit jerit menangisi kepergian mayit hingga keluar kata-kata kekufuran hal itu tidak menyebabkan mayit disiksa melainkan maksudnya ialah mayit tersebut semakin tersiksa mendengar keluarganya hingga mengeluarkan kata-kata yang sedemikian.
